meet (i am) isis. the renaissance chic. the poet/ spoken soul & performance artist. the rocker. the writer/ journalist/ lover/ friend/ community activist/ spiritual advisor/ revolutionary/ and whatever damn else u need her to be.

nurturing her love affair with ink and page, rhyme and stage, the Newark-born, Minneapolis-raised phenomenon has created for herself a montage of eclectic rhymes, emotional rants, socio-political soliloquies and stories of love and growth and inspiration.

described as haunting and mesmerizing, (i am) isis has performed across the country, from L.A. and Chicago to New York and Washington, D.C. sharing her eclectic fusion of spoken word, eclectic rhymes, rock and soul music.

“i call it ‘spoken soul’,” says isis. “it’s a montage of all the music i grew up listening to and loved enough that i decided i didn’t have to choose just one to express myself.”

(i am) isis’ live shows have been characterized as an energetic explosion of power and grace — a reputation that has followed her across the country at such venues as Minneapolis’ historic First Avenue Nightclub, Harlem Shrine World Music Center, Crash Mansion (NYC) and Triple Rock Soul (MPLS). she has been featured at various festivals, including Prince’s Xenophobia @ Paisley Park, B-Girl Be (MPLS), Twin Cities Hip-Hop Festival and Watts Summer Festival (LA).

as a performance artist, (i am) isis has also performed at numerous venues, including the MN Historic State Theatre alongside Tracy Ellis Ross, Claudia Jordan and Vivica Fox.

she published her first chapbook in May 2006. a poetic (r).evoL.ution celebrates the power of words spoken (now written) and, through poetry, follows the angst, love, evolution and resolution of finding one’s voice.

(i am) isis recently relocated to Brooklyn and is putting the final touches on her debut project, set for release in January 2010.
